What is the mood of this novel? do you find this novel saddens you in any way? why?

The mood of this novel is pretty depressive and somber because their current situation gets worse although it does not appear to be. The animals believe the revolution was successful, and are getting closer and closer to a better life. However, they have been tricked to the pigs. The windmill project meets failure a few times, which makes the mood even gloomier because the windmill enables electricity and possibly less work. Another reason why I think the mood of this story is depressive is because the stupid animals believe whatever Squealer tells them and get tricked. The mood is also a bit scary because a few animals are banned from the farm and killed for Napoleon’s own benefit. For example, Napoleon removes Snowball from Animal Farm due to several suspicious reasons. One of the reasons was because Napoleon was afraid Snowball would seize all the power by the delightful idea, building a windmill. Although the animals work all together well for a short period of time after the revolution, the rulers seem to get violent, or sometimes even as violent as humans.

One scene that saddened me is when Snowball was expelled from the farm. It is because Napoleon’s selfishness has led to a banishment of a ruler who came up with a bright idea. Another reason is because the animals did not know the truth that Napoleon was scared of Snowball if he achieves honor and power, not because Snowball betrayed, yet merely trusted the sly excuses Squealer had come up with. Moreover, the fact that the selfishness and personal greed have led the animals break the equality and commandments saddened me because it basically reflects us human beings.
